Osteoporosis is a disease that causes bones to become more porous, gradually making them weaker and more brittle.

Normal bone
is dense
and strong.
Bone with osteoporosis has thinned out and become more porous, making it more likely to break.

Over 25 million American women and men are afflicted with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis affects 1 out of 2 post-menopausal women, making it one of America's most common diseases. More women suffer fractures related to osteoporosis than experience heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer, uterine cancer and cervical cancer combined.

Symptoms:
Osteoporosis is known as "The Silent Disease" because it has no obvious signs or symptoms. Frequently, the first sign of osteoporosis is a fracture. Although all bones are affected, fractures of the spine, wrist and hip are most common.

The doctors are dedicated to treating osteoporosis. They have seen first hand how patient's quality of life deteriorates after a fracture is suffered. It is disheartening because osteoporosis is a very treatable and preventable disease if it is diagnosed early with the help of a bone density scan.

Early Detection:
Osteoporosis detection is a quick and simple procedure. During your examination a bone densitometer is used to determine the density of your bones. There are no injections, bad tasting medicines or eating restrictions required in preparation for the exam, which takes approximately 10 minutes.
